Director Retirement – Trish Skinner

Fresh Markets Australia acknowledge that long serving director, WA’s Trish Skinner, has relinquished her position as an FMA Board Member. Representing the Chamber of Fruit & Vegetables in WA, Market West, Trish joined the FMA Board in 2002. Since then, Trish has worked with enthusiasm, loyalty and commitment to support the objectives and initiatives of FMA and the broader fresh produce industry.

After joining the WA Chamber almost 25 years ago, Trish became Vice President in 2006 and was elected President in 2011. Trish played a pivotal role in the acquisition of the Perth Markets through the formation of an industry consortium, leading a sub-committee in formulating an attractive, competitive bid which was ultimately successful as the preferred bidder to purchase the Perth Markets from the State Government in 2016. Trish’s leadership and support was invaluable in realising the goal of industry-based ownership of the Markets on behalf of the wholesaling sector and the fresh produce industry in WA.

Trish has been pro-active in representing the interests of the industry on various matters affecting the wider horticulture environment. This included her ongoing efforts to campaign on behalf of both WA & national wholesalers, seeking a fair and equitable outcome in the formulation of the Horticulture Code of Conduct, as we know it today.

Trish was awarded the prestigious FMA Meritorious Service Award in 2017 for her contribution to the industry. A very worthy award for her outstanding services over many years.

FMA’s Chair Shane Schnitzler offered his congratulations and gratitude to Trish, acknowledging her long and significant contribution to Fresh Markets Australia, the sector and the ongoing success of the central markets nationally.
