South Australian Produce Market Limited is the distribution and marketing hub for fresh produce in South Australia. More than 250,000 tonnes of fresh produce with a wholesale value of over $590M is traded between our wholesalers, growers and retail operators every year.

Despite the challenges of 2020 (bushfires, COVID-19, fruit fly) the fiscal year was the first in which the Market’s flagship onsite Microgrid was operational. The Microgrid has provided a significant reduction in reliance on the amount of electricity purchased from the energy grid and reduced carbon emissions by 30%. The total electricity charged to tenants was down 25% on the previous financial year, even though tenant consumption was only down 2%.

The South Australian Produce Market has commenced the master planning of the site’s Bio Security Master Plan. Stage One has been completed with fruit fly proofing all buildings due to the current outbreak of Med fly in Pooraka. This year was the first year the site was declared in an outbreak area since moving to Pooraka some 32 years ago. Further Bio Security facilities are currently being developed in Stage Two and Three of the Market’s Master Plan.

A new Car / Van Wash and Carl’s Jnr food outlet is currently being constructed located on vacant land at the corner of Burma and Main North Roads.

The South Australian Produce Market is already home to over 100 businesses, 75% of those are local growers and has a value estimated at around $500 million and look forward to continuing to expand their offering.
Services include daily supply and price reporting, inspection and quality control, banking and credit service facilities, event management for product and seasonal launches, in-store promotional activities, multimedia campaign advertising, marketing, unloading services and pallet management.
South Australian Produce Market is a public unlisted company, majority owned by South Australian horticulture Industry members.
