About CMAA
The Central Markets Association of Australia (or CMAA) was formed in 2001 to provide a peak body for the six wholesale central markets around Australia. Its members include the Adelaide Produce Market, Brisbane Markets, Market City in Western Australia, the Melbourne Market, Newcastle Market and the Sydney Markets.
The CMAA’s objectives include acting as a united voice, the exchanging and sharing of ideas and information, the coordination of submissions and representation to all levels of Government and representation at local, national and international conferences. Wholesale central markets play an essential role in the national horticulture supply chain in ensuring produce gets from growers and/or wholesalers to supermarkets, greengrocers, restaurants, cafes, export operators and other food service providers in an efficient and cost-effective manner. Wholesale central markets act as a one-stop shop for all lines of fresh fruit and vegetables, offer a large customer base at one location, provide an orderly and open trading system, create an ideal play to develop business contacts and relationships, provide access to credit services, marketing, warehousing, cool-rooms and unloading services and also provide access to suppliers, industry organisations and quality assurance programs. Collectively, these wholesale central markets supply over 4 million tonnes of fresh produce each year, worth an estimated wholesale value of around $7 billion.
